From the Desk of Jackie Friedman: Nexion Expands Into Canada

By now you’ve heard the exciting news that Nexion has expanded into Canada. We recently signed a purchase agreement to acquire a majority share of Uniglobe Instant Travel Inc., a London, Ontario-based travel agency and effective February 1, Nexion will begin caoperations in Canada. Operating in Canada since 1982, Uniglobe Instant has actively engaged Independent Contractors (ICs) since 1998. The acquisition and move into Canada will enable us to partner with an established Canadian travel agency and begin replicating our very successful and award-winning host agency concept for independent travel agents throughout the country.

Nexion is always looking for opportunities for smart growth, because as we grow with productive agents, we all benefit. The expansion into Canada provides Nexion with significantly more buying power that will lift every Nexion member. By partnering with Mike Foster’s highly reputable and established Ontario travel agency business, we will be able to serve Canada’s growing number of independent travel agents nationally. We look forward to providing them with access to Nexion’s award-winning training ranging from coaching to Boot Camps, along with marketing, cruise group space and technology platforms. Sometimes it makes sense to look for other opportunities to grow, and this partnership is one of them.

Travel Leaders embarks on agent recruitment effort

Travel Leaders is launching a campaign to attract young travel agents and to place them with Travel Leaders agencies.

The initiative tackles a major problem in retail travel, that of an aging sales force. Even new entrants are often on a second career.

“It’s no secret that our industry is significantly challenged by an increasingly aging travel agent population with too little new, young blood coming into our ranks,” said Barry Liben, CEO of Travel Leaders Group.

Travel Leaders will offer training through a variety of channels and agency internships. The Travel Institute is providing the core curriculum and technology platform.

Suppliers including Celebrity Cruises, Delta Air Lines, Funjet Vacations, Globus, Hertz, MLT Vacations, Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International, Sabre Travel Network, Travel Guard and Travel Insured International will sponsor program components.

Jackie Friedman, president of Nexion (a host agency under the Travel Leaders Group umbrella), is heading the recruitment/training program. She also is running a Nexion initiative designed to attract new talent to the industry.

Industry educator Heather Kindred will be program director. Most recently, Kindred was a continuing-education training specialist for the University of Washington Medicine in Seattle.

She has also done training in travel, working with companies including Holland America Line, Carlson Wagonlit Travel and AAA (Washington State) dating back to 1996.

Friedman said that the program has three goals: improve perceptions of the viability of a travel agent career, develop a comprehensive curriculum that covers industry needs and produce graduates who can fill positions in Travel Leaders agencies.

The first class will be early in 2013.

Nexion Announces Annual Conference in Las Vegas

Nexion reports that its CoNexion 2013 annual conference will be held September 26-28, 2013 at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV. CoNexion 2013 will feature industry speakers, dozens of new classes, a trade show, and Nexion’s supplier roundtables. The CoNexion 2013 theme is “Place Your Bet on Success,” encouraging agents to connect with each other and to utilize the tools and resources of Nexion.
"We will be sharing top industry insights and training so that our Nexion agents can return home and build an even stronger business for themselves," said Nexion President Jackie Friedman.

Friedman expects CoNexion 2013 to surpass Nexion's 2012 Dallas conference when over 350 agents, suppliers, and staff were on hand in Dallas. Over 100 suppliers participated in the trade show and Nexion offered more classes than ever before. Nexion also said it gave away over $230,000 in travel prizes on behalf of its supplier partners.

In a post-conference survey, 88 percent of 2012 attendees surveyed said they would attend CoNexion 2013. Another 99 percent of agents surveyed said they found the conference worth their time, effort, and investment, Nexion reports.

“As a new Nexion agent and first time CoNexion attendee, it was an awesome experience to be with other people in the industry and to receive the encouragement and knowledge other agents have to offer,” said Nexion agent Shirley Hudson, owner of Shirley4Travel located in Ovilla, TX. “CoNexion is enjoyable, entertaining, educational, and is well worth any agent’s time and money. I definitely encourage other Nexion agents to attend CoNexion. I have already used the organizational skills I learned at CoNexion 2012 to set up my home office and I’ve used the tips I learned in the social media session to start working on my website.”
Early bird registration is now open for CoNexion 2013 at a discounted rate of $109. Agents who register before March 31, 2013, will also be eligible for a number of travel prizes. Over 100 Nexion agents have registered for the conference and space is expected to fill up, Nexion said.

Nexion is offering a negotiated nightly hotel rate of $129 at Paris Las Vegas for CoNexion attendees, which includes complimentary Internet access. WebView Changes: Resources Tab Added


We recently introduced a new tab in WebView.   Between “Tools” and “Reports” we created the new tab, “Resources”.  This information was previously a sub-tab under the Tools menu but we found that most people were not aware of or took advantage of the information.  Because of this we chose to expand the tab options to include the new tab so that information is easier for you to access.  We hope you like the new change.  If you have input as to any other changes/additions/deletions you would like to see please send an email to techsupport@nexion.com



Globus Secondary Phone Field Program

The Globus Secondary Phone Field Program will provide Nexion Members with many benefits like working with your local BDM and Sales team, invitations to local training opportunities, marketing assistance and sales guidance. 

All these benefits will be available to you with no change to commission levels, access to promotions or training credits. You can continue to book Globus the same way you do today. (Please note Nexion is still the Primary Agency of record for all Agencies under Secondary phone field. All refunds/commissions will continue to be filtered through the Nexion Office).

Some helpful tips:

  • Contacting the Reservation Center: When calling to make or service existing reservations,
    it is very important that you request to have your secondary phone field number added.
    The reservation agent at Globus will only do this upon your request. 
  • Please remember to give the reservation agent both phone numbers, Nexion's and yours.

Nexion Invoice Tool


Nexion is very excited to be Beta Testing our new Invoicing tool.  This new tool will allow you to create an invoice for your customer based on the data entered into both the non-ARC Posting tool and the GDS systems. 
If you are interested in using this new tool we highly recommend that you review the User Manual prior to working with the invoice tool.  There are four components to the new tool and all of them are located on the Tools page in WebView.  The components include:

  • Customer Maintenance – Keep track of your customers
  • Agent Maintenance – Setup default information about you that will appear on the invoice
  • Search Posting – The creation of an invoice starts here
  • User Manual – PDF Document on how to use the tool

Key features of the tool include:

  • No duplicate data entry
  • Ability to include your company logo on the invoice
  • Ability to modify all data elements added to the invoice
  • Print or email the invoice
  • Include both ARC and non-ARC information
  • Add new line items to the invoice
  • Reorder line items any way you like

Please understand that this is phase I of the tool and that additional functionality will be added periodically.  If you have any issues with the tool or want to provide input on future functionality please send us a note to techsupport@nexion.com.

 

Sabre GDS Users: Tripcase Migration Information

Nexion and Sabre will start migrating Sabre Pseudo City’s from virtually there to Tripcase. Please review the migration schedule below.  If you were unable to attend the Nexion sponsored training on tripcase, please review the product information on Sabre Eservices, Resources, Tripcase.

Tripcase  will automatically import your agency phone number from your Sabre PNR; it is programed to read the A, Agency designator in the 9 field.   Nexion has removed our A, agency designator from all of your pseudo city’s zero level stars and our phone number now appears in the records as 9DFW 408-280-6410 NEXION.If you have added the Nexion phone number to any office or individual stars please update and remove the A designator. Information on updating profiles can be found under eservices, format finder, Stars - Lines: Delete or Modify (N¤)

If you currently do not have the A or Agency designators in your agency phone field please add it. By adding this designator it will give your customers access to your contact information from the tripcase import or email.

Please review PE formats and utilize the BC for any emails where you do not want to populate a trip case account.  Formats can be reviewed in Format Finder or under the Tripcase resource page in eservices.

Additionally for all of you who responded to the survey, your virtually there settings have been confirmed and will be imported into the new tool correctly. We will be adding any logos that we have received within a few days of your migration date. If you did not respond to the survey your existing virtually there settings will be imported to the new tool.

All of Nexion’s  500 individual Sabre Pseudos’ will be migrated to this new tool. The above schedule has been submitted to Sabre, and we are unable to  make any changes to the above migration schedule.

If your information is not appearing correctly within a week of your migration date please email the details to nancy.joslyn@nexion.com . Include your Sabre PCCC code and your user id along with any corrections that need to be made.

Changes to Tripcase configuration including agency information after the migration period (March 1, 2013) will be processed via memberservices@nexion.com.  You must include your Sabre PCCC code and your Nexion User ID along with any updates you are requesting

Tax Notification Regarding 1099

Nexion 1099s will be processed and mailed the last week of January per IRS regulations for all agent that have earned over  $600.00 in 2012.  Please allow sufficient mail time to receive them. We will not be sending copies until after February 20th.  Once you receive your 1099 to be sure we have accurately reported your income with your correct name, tax id and address.  If you have any changes to make please send your request to accounting@nexion.com with the correction.  We need them before March 10, 2013 to change the records before we file with the IRS.

 

travel42 Renewal Information

Hello Nexion Agents,

It’s that time again!Our annual subscription to travel42 is up for renewal beginning on January 31st, 2013.
The price per user per month is $19, for a yearly total of $228(this is a yearly subscription). There is also the Nexion processing fee of $15 that will also be applied to your account.

Please note, even if you signed up in the recent months, you are up for renewal as well.
If you would like to renew your subscription for travel42, please send an email to memberservices@nexion.com no later than end of business on January 28, 2013.

Your email must include your Nexion ID number, your name and your email address. Your Nexion account will be billed the non-refundable fee for travel42 plus $15 nonrefundable Nexion processing fee on February 1, 2013. If you have any questions, please let me know.
